Marcos Netto is an Assistant Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), where he is also affiliated with the Center for Applied Mathematics and Statistics. From 2019 to 2022, he worked as a Research Engineer at the National Laboratory of the Rockies (NLR). Before that, he earned his PhD in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Virginia Tech, under the supervision of Lamine Mili. Netto also has more than seven years of private industry experience, including roles at power transmission system operators, software developers, consulting firms, and high-voltage equipment manufacturers in Brazil and the United States.
At NLR, Netto was awarded the Director's Postdoctoral Fellowship and contributed to several projects funded by the U.S. Department of Energy. He served as the principal investigator in a project that pioneered the implementation at NLR of a data analytics platform based on streaming data, suitable for developing and testing applications for the real-time operation of power grids. His research has focused on understanding, characterizing, and controlling the dynamics of electric power grids. His work was featured in the best papers session of the IEEE Power and Energy Society General Meeting and received a student contest award.
